Best suited for work with teens and adults, the CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) approach focuses on thought patterns that cause stress, impacting emotions, beliefs, and behaviors. CBT facilitates changes in these thought patterns and supports more adaptive emotional states and behavior to improve health. The skills and strategies needed for lasting change are learned and practiced and with consistency, progress is made.
Children communicate, connect, and learn through play. It’s in play where they begin to develop their sense of self and their understanding of the world, and it’s in play where they’re free to express their feelings. Play therapy may be done one-on-one with the child and therapist, or it may include family members. Play is fun. Play is universal. Play is healing.
Children (and teens and adults) are able to engage their whole brain and naturally practice the skill of co-regulation with the sand tray. Through the use of the sand tray, the brain processes sensory and other non-verbal information, making connections and opening up opportunities to process and express experiences in healthier and more adaptive ways.

As skills in physiological regulation improve, emotional regulation and mindset regulation will too.
